What is a stretch mark?
Stretch marks are linear streaks on the skin caused by the breakdown of elastin and collagen fibers in the dermis. They appear during rapid weight fluctuations, pregnancy, puberty, or when taking certain medications. There are two stages:
- Red (inflammatory) stretch marks: recent, ranging in color from pink to purplish, and the easiest to treat.
- White stretch marks (scarring): older, pearly in appearance, deeper, and more resistant to treatment.

A stretch mark treatment session at My Laser Maroc lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Here is a typical procedure:
- Skin preparation: makeup removal, cleansing, eye protection.
- Laser treatment: The fractional laser is applied to the area. A sensation of warmth is felt, which is well tolerated.
- Soothing treatment: application of a restorative balm and broad-spectrum sunscreen.
- Post-treatment tips: intensive moisturizing, strict use of sunscreen for 4 weeks, and avoiding direct sun exposure.
The side effects are mild: temporary redness lasting 24–48 hours; no downtime is required for non-ablative treatments.
How many sessions are needed to treat stretch marks?
The number of sessions required to treat stretch marks depends on their stage (red vs. white), their extent, and your skin type:
- Red stretch marks (recent): 3 to 5 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
- White stretch marks (old): 4 to 8 sessions for noticeable results.
- Extensive stretch marks (abdomen, entire thighs): personalized treatment plan with longer sessions.
The first results are visible after the second or third session, with a gradual improvement in the texture and evenness of the skin tone. The final reduction can reach 60 to 80 percent, depending on the stage of the stretch marks.

Contraindications and precautions
Laser treatment for stretch marks has few contraindications, but certain situations require precautions:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (treatment should be postponed).
- If you have a recent tan: avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks before and after.
- Use of retinoids (Roaccutane): Discontinue use 6 months prior.
- History of keloid scarring: a preliminary test is recommended.
- Active skin infection in the area to be treated.
