Pollution, weather, acne—there are many factors that leave their mark on the face and can cause significant self-consciousness. To address dull skin, acne scars, or enlarged pores, TCA peels are the solution.
A TCA peel involves inducing skin exfoliation using a chemical agent,trichloroaceticacid(TCA), a non-toxic,non-allergenic derivative of acetic acid. A TCA peel is classified as a “medium” peel, meaning that, depending on the concentration, it acts down to the junction between the epidermis and the dermis.
By chemically exfoliating the skin, a TCA peel stimulates regeneration by promoting the production of collagen and new cells. The deeper layers of the skin are repaired and serve as the foundation for a more beautiful and rejuvenated surface layer.
TCA peels are recommended for treating the following skin imperfections:
During an initial mandatory consultation, the doctor will examine your skin and determine: the concentration of TCA, the contact time, and the number of successive layers to be applied.
Upon review:
1. The doctor exfoliates the skin to remove dead skin cells.
2. He applies the peel with a brush to the treatment area; you may feel a sensation of warmth and tingling.
3. After a period of application determined by the doctor, once the skin has turned white, the doctor stops the TCA’s action by gently applying a water-soaked compress.
4. Finally, the doctor will apply a moisturizing and restorative cream.
After the treatment, the skin appearspinkto very red. The higher the concentration of TCA used in the peel, the more severe the peeling and the longer the recovery period; up to a week.
You should avoid sun exposure before and after your session.

The side effects of TCA peels are expected and temporary: redness, tightness, flaking (3–7 days), and a possible sensation of tight skin. Rarely: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (prevented by using the pre-treatment depigmenting cream and strictly adhering to sunscreen use).
Absolute contraindications:

TCA peels are versatile and suitable for olive and dark skin tones. Lasers target specific conditions (blood vessels, deep spots). The two can be combined in certain treatment protocols.
Depending on the concentration: 3–4 days for a superficial peel, 7 days for a medium-depth TCA peel. Schedule the peel before a long weekend.
Not recommended: increased risk of hyperpigmentation from sun exposure. It is best to schedule this treatment during the winter months (October through March).
