How does laser hair removal on the neck work?
The laser targets the melanin in the hair and destroys the hair follicle with heat, without damaging the skin. On the neck, it treats the dark hairs on the throat, the sides of the neck, and under the jaw—hairs that are often thick and prone to ingrown hairs after shaving.
At My Laser, treatments are performed using two lasers: the 755 nm Alexandrite laser from the Cynosure Elite+ platform for fair skin (phototypes 1 through 3) and the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser for medium to dark skin (phototypes 4 through 6). Each machine is equipped with a Zimmer cold air blower that cools the skin throughout the laser treatment. The laser technician selects the wavelength and settings based on your skin type and hair color.
Expect 5 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart—7 to 8 if the hair growth is hormone-related—with each session lasting about 15 minutes. The neck area can be treated on its own or along with adjacent areas:
- Neck gaiter only, 400 MAD for women and 700 MAD for men
- Chin and neck contouring for women, for a well-defined jawline
- Full beard or neckline trim for men, shirt collar for 400 MAD
- Chest, abs, and neck—5-session package for men

What happens during a laser hair removal session for the neck area?

A laser specialist will examine your skin and hair, check for any contraindications, determine your skin type, and work with you to decide on the number of sessions. This initial consultation is free, both in Casablanca and Tangier.
Preparation
Shave the area the day before your session. Throughout the treatment process, do not use wax, tweezers, or an electric epilator—these remove the hair that the laser is supposed to target. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanning products, and be sure to mention any photosensitizing treatments you are taking.
The session
You’ll wear protective eyewear, and then the practitioner will use either the Alexandrite or Nd:YAG laser, depending on your skin type. The Zimmer cold air blower continuously cools the treatment area. The procedure takes about 15 minutes for the neck area.
After the session
A soothing cream is applied, and you can resume your normal activities right away. Avoid sun exposure for 3 weeks and apply sunscreen to exposed areas. The treated hairs will fall out on their own within 1 to 3 weeks.

Contraindications and Possible Side Effects

Contraindications
- Tanned skin or recent or planned sun exposure
- Blonde, white, gray, or red hair: electrolysis takes over
- Herpes outbreak in that area
- Photosensitizing treatments: oral retinoids, St. John’s wort, certain antibiotics
- Infection, disease, or skin lesion in the area
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
- Photosensitizing cream or oil applied to the area
Possible Effects
- Minor swelling around the hair follicles for a few hours: a sign that the laser has taken effect
- Skin redness or sensitivity lasting 1 to 3 days
- A sensation of warmth or tingling during the session, which is alleviated by cold air
- Temporary itching, which subsides within a few days
- More rarely, a superficial burn or change in skin color, especially if the skin is tanned: notify the center immediately
- Your eyes are protected by goggles throughout the entire session
