Microneedling is a cutting-edge technique in aesthetic medicine and dermatology that uses micro-needles to stimulate the skin and improve its appearance. After a microneedling session, it is essential to take care of your skin to maximize results and promote rapid healing. In this article, we will provide valuable tips for post-microneedling care to ensure a pleasant experience and optimal results.
What is microneedling, and how does it work?
Microneedling is a procedure that involves creating tiny micro-incisions in the skin using a device equipped with fine needles. These micro-incisions stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, promoting the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen is an essential protein that helps maintain the skin’s firmness and elasticity, while elastin allows the skin to return to its original shape after being stretched.
Microneedling can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, such as wrinkles, acne scars, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. It can also help improve skin texture, reduce pore size, and even out skin tone. This procedure is non-invasive and can be performed on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolletage, and hands.
Tips for Post-Microneedling Care
After undergoing a microneedling treatment, it is important to follow the post-procedure care instructions to ensure your skin heals properly. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
1. Relieve redness
After microneedling, it is normal to experience redness and mild inflammation of the skin. To relieve these symptoms, you can apply a soothing cream or use cold compresses on the treated area. Avoid using harsh or irritating products on your skin for the first few days following the procedure.
2. Moisturize your skin
During the healing process, it’s essential to keep your skin moisturized to promote rapid healing. Use a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer to avoid clogging your pores. Also, choose products that contain soothing ingredients such as aloe vera or hyaluronic acid.
3. Boost collagen production
Microneedling stimulates collagen production. For best results, use specific products that promote collagen production. Serums containing peptides or vitamin C enhance the effects of microneedling and improve skin texture and firmness.
4. Protect your skin from the sun
After microneedling, your skin is more sensitive to UV rays. It is therefore essential to protect your skin by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF. Apply the sunscreen generously to all treated areas and reapply frequently, especially if you are exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
5. Avoid wearing makeup
After microneedling, it is recommended that you avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 hours, as it can clog your pores and interfere with the healing process. Wait until your skin has fully recovered before resuming the use of cosmetics.
6. Reduce inflammation
If you experience mild redness or itching after microneedling, you can apply a cold compress or use a soothing mask to alleviate these symptoms. Choose masks made with natural ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal or cucumber to soothe and refresh your skin.
7. Avoid exfoliation
During the healing process, avoid using exfoliating products or scrubs, as they can irritate your already sensitive skin. Let your skin heal naturally and wait until all signs of healing have completely disappeared before resuming exfoliation.
8. Follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations
Everyone reacts differently to microneedling, so follow the advice of your healthcare professional or aesthetician. They can recommend which products to use. They can also advise you on how often to have microneedling sessions. In addition, they can recommend post-procedure skincare tailored to your skin type.

September 2026 Update: The Day-by-Day Schedule
Here is the protocol we provide today to each patient after a Dermapen microneedling session at our centers in Casablanca and Tangier.
Day 0: The First 6 Hours
The skin is red and warm, like after a sunburn. Do not apply anything other than the soothing serum provided at the center; do not touch your face, and do not wear makeup.
Days 1 and 2
Redness that gradually subsides, tight feeling. Gentle, soap-free cleanser, lukewarm water, restorative cream morning and night, mineral sunscreen SPF 50 even indoors near windows. No intense exercise, no steam room, and no swimming pool.
Days 3 through 7
Slight peeling may occur: do not scratch or exfoliate. Mineral makeup is allowed starting on day 3. Gradually reintroduce gentle active ingredients (hyaluronic acid, niacinamide). Still avoid retinol, acids, or concentrated vitamin C.
Days 7 through 30
The skin is smoother and more radiant; collagen continues to regenerate for 4 to 6 weeks. Resume using your usual skincare products starting on day 10, apply sunscreen daily, and schedule your next session 4 to 6 weeks after the first one.
What to Avoid After Microneedling
- Direct sunlight and UV tanning beds for 2 weeks.
- Sauna, steam room, chlorinated pool, and intense exercise for 48 hours.
- Exfoliants, retinol, fruit acids, and vitamin C for 7 days.
- Waxing, laser hair removal, or chemical peels on the area for 2 weeks.
- Touch or pierce the small scabs.
Combining microneedling with other treatments
Microneedling pairs very well with facial mesotherapy (a vitamin cocktail applied during the session) and, at a later date, with skin boosters for deep hydration. Current prices are listed in the mesotherapy and microneedling price list.
